Day 9

Today was industrial visit to Wugang Steel Enterprise and we had to meet at 8.10am, and collected our helmets as a safety precaution. I think we look kinda dorky in that helmet, but we didn’t have a choice. Bus journey was about 30 minutes or so.

Upon arriving at the Wugang Steel Enterprise, we wore that dorky helmet and were given a tour. We weren’t allowed to take photos inside so no pictures! HEH! but the furnace was REALLY HOT!!! We were told that the furnace to heat the steel in order to make it malleable was about 800degrees. Imagine how hot is that huh?! I could feel the heat despite standing so far away, I wonder how the workers there endure the heat. It looks just like a gigantic rectangular block, and then transferred via conveyor to the next station using roller to flatten it. The whole process from a large block of steel to a thin film roll of steel is totally awesome and amazing. I got so excited when the super long film rush over to the machine that rolls it up. Then it gets tied up, sent to the conveyor for quality check, and ready for sale.

finally a decent picture with my room mates, Mei Xiu and Meow Lin respectively. :)

After that, we still had to go back for IS lesson. Lesson was rather dry as that China lecturer was purely reading off the slides, and the slides were words words words, no pictures! Okay, maybe only ONE picture on the map of China.

that's Ms Zhang giving lecture.

Lesson ended about 4pm, we headed out to 户部巷 for dinner, and shop at the same time. wo took a bus there! :D

road to freedom?

The night was chilling and nice, then we met up with Wu Di again and he brought us to the long bridge across 长江 since it was just nearby the place we were having dinner.

Reflection:
To the people of China, 1 or 2 hours is already considered fast and near. That’s because China is SOOOOOO BIG! But to us, living in Singapore, it’s really long and far as the longest journey if we were to travel to from Boon Lay to Pasir Ris, it’ll only take 1hr max if we’re driving. That’s the difference I realized ever since I arrived here. So now that I know, if some PRC tells me that the journey is very short, it’ll take at least 45 minutes to an hour for sure. HAHA!
