Day 23

Today’s IS lesson was about the Chinese Philosophy. I’ve learnt that there’re 5 schools of thought: Confucianism (儒家, Rujia), Taoism (道家, Daojia), Mohism (墨家, Mojia), Legalism (法家, Fajia) and Buddhism (佛家, Fojia). Although these individual philosophical schools are different, they still share a common set of concerns and terms such as:

  • Tao (the Way, or one's doctrine, 道

  • De (virtue, power, 德

  • Li (principle, 理)

  • Qi (vital energy or material force, 气)

Apart from the philosophies, we learnt some famous mottoes by Chinese ancient sages. This particular sage is one of my favourite: “敏而好学,不耻下问”, means fools learn nothing from wise men, while wise men learn much from fool as a man with higher degree of education wouldn’t feel ashamed when seeking advice from other people.

We went out after lesson as usual, and to my surprise, the school had this big board advertising and encouraging on the Earth Hour! i didnt know they'd even bother about such thing.

and just beside the bus stop, people selling hot piping popcorns! smells nice abut i didnt dare to buy them. Mei Xiu did, and she said it was quite nice.

on the bus, they've got tv just like our MobTV

that's the Bu Xing Jie. there're many Bu Xing Jie in Wuhan, and the word 'Bu Xing" means walking and "Jie" means street. so "Bu Xing Jie" actually means a street for walking, NO VEHICLES! and they even have barriers to prevent cars or bikes to enter.
